2017 Kona Chocolate Run FAQs

General Questions:

What do I get for my entry fee?

All participants in the Kona Chocolate Run 10K, 5K, Chocolate Double & Cocoa Mile receive a GUARANTEED high quality L. Jordan brand “Full zipper jacket with two zipper pockets and embroidered”.  All 10K, 5K, and Cocoa Mile finishers receive a medal. Age Group Awards in 10K & 5K events. Panera Bread providing cups of Hot Chocolate and Chocolate Chip Cookies, Sanders Chocolate Candy & Guernsey Dairy serving Chocolate Milk among other sweet treats!

Chocolate Double participants: Runners registered for the combined 10K & 5K events receive a GUARANTEED high quality L. Jordan brand “Full zipper jacket with two zipper pockets and embroidered”, a single medal for both the 10K and 5K, a Double Finisher medal and the food buffet. Participation in the Chocolate Double is limited to 550 runners. Participants must start in the first wave of 10K and no later than the second wave of the 5K.

How can I sign up for the events?

Online registration is now open on our website at: www.KonaChocolateRun.com/registration/

Or download the race entry form and mail in, or go to a Road Runner Sports store (see below WHEN IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER? FAQ for locations) and register in person.

Are there entry limits for the races?

Yes…

The 10K is limited to 1,300
The 5K is limited to 3,500
The Chocolate Double is limited to 550
The Cocoa Mile is limited to 200

What are the age limits for the races?

There are no age limits. We encourage participants of all ages to join us.

Are the race events walker friendly?

Yes, we will have plenty of participants that will walk. If you plan to walk the race, we do require that you line up at the back of the race corral so as not to impede the faster runners. 10K Time Qualifier: Participants must run at “18 minutes or less pace per mile” to register for our 10K event

Are there refunds if cannot attend? Can someone else run with my bib no?

NO REFUNDS; ONLY TRANSFERS ALLOWED TO ANOTHER PERSON BEFORE OUR ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES!

Are baby joggers or strollers or pet dogs allowed during the race?

If you choose to run with a baby jogger or a pet dog, you must seed yourself in the back of all runners. It is your responsibility to make sure the baby jogger or pet dog does not impede other runners as well as you must take extra precaution as to your safety, your child’s safety and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any person from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.  All dogs MUST be kept on a SHORT leash.

Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc) allowed during the race?

Headphones are allowed for any runner however, we do recommend that runners use extreme precaution when using headphones during the race event for safety reasons.

When is the last day to register?

The last day to register “online” is Thursday, November 16th by 11:00 pm EST.

Packet Pick Up:

How will I receive my race packet?

You must pick up your race packet before the event. We will not mail race packets.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

Yes.

Race Information:

Can I register on race day?

At the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Center (PARC) gym ( MAP):
Race day morning, November 19, from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM. CASH OR CHECK ONLY.

Do you accept credit cards for registration race day?

No, cash or check only.

Will there be water stations?

Yes, there will be water stations about every 1.5 miles in the 10k, and at the halfway point of the 5k event. Also water is provided at the start & finish areas.

Will there be medical aid stations?

The Medical Aid station is located at start/finish line area and course marshals on all three courses have two-way radios for contact with public safety officials.

Will there be bathrooms/portable toilets available?

Indoor restrooms are available at the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Center (PARC) and at The Gathering pavilion. Portable toilets are available at start/finish area next to The Gathering pavilion, adjacent to Kellogg Park, at the 3 mile aid station on the 10K course, at the aid station at the combined 4.5 mile-10K course/halfway point of the 5K course location.

Where can we park for the races and are there shuttle buses?

Parking is available in downtown Plymouth, both on-street and in municipal lots.  The City of Plymouth charges $5 per vehicle in for municipal parking lots and structures.  Kona Running Company offers free shuttle buses from Troy Design and Manufacturing (TDM) on Sheldon Road.

Shuttle bus parking is at the ACH Plant – 14425 N. Sheldon in Plymouth (Sheldon Road & M-14).  Buses will drop runners off at Plymouth Arts and Recreation Center.   First bus leaves ACH about 6:40 AM and will run every 10-15 minutes. Last bus leaves the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Center at 10:30 AM.

Shuttle bus service will be stopped at 10:30 AM.  All patrons in line to load at that time will be transported to the remote parking however patrons arriving at the shuttle loading zone after 10:30 AM may not have bus transportation available.

Where are start/finish lines and the event start times?

THE FINISH LINE SHUTS DOWN AT 10:30 A.M.  Start and Finish lines are at Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth. Kona Chocolate Run 10K at 7:30 am, Cocoa Mile at 8:00 am and 5K at 9:00 am.

What times do the courses close?

THE FINISH LINE SHUTS DOWN AT 10:30 A.M.  The Chocolate Run 10K street course, from the start through mile 3, will be available until 9:00 AM at which time any remaining 10K participants must move to the sidewalk until joining the remainder of the course which is shared by the 5K race.

The Chocolate Run 5K street course will be available until 10:30 AM at which time any remaining participants must move to the sidewalk or proceed at their own risk. The timing mats will be shut down at 10:30 AM and times will no longer be recorded. Water and food buffet will also be stopped. City of Plymouth Police and subcontractor monitoring may also be discontinued.

B-Tag chip timing?

Runners will need to wear Race Bib on their front – shirt/ jacket/ pants – to be scored in 10K & 5K Run/Walk events (ChronoTrack B-tag is on the bib).

Awards:

Age Group Awards?

Age group awards are presented for the 10K and 5K events for males and females in the top three places in the age groups 10-14 years, 15-19 years, 20-24 years, 25-29 years, 30-34 years, 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54 years, 55-59 years, 60-64 years, 65-69 years, 70-74 years and 75+ years. Awards be given out at the Awards tent in Kellogg Park at 9:30 AM. If you think you have won an award, please check at the Awards tent. If you are unable to wait for the official results and pick up your award on race day, you may have a friend pick it up or pay to have it shipped.
